Melanie was such a thrill to work with, she totally rocked in front of the camera and her boyfriend Sayha was a lifesaver (Thank you so much again for working the smoke grenades!!). I got connected to Melanie through Melissa and I absolutely love working with them. They're so open to any ideas that come along, I love love working with those who are open to anything.
I got the amazing Savanah to come work her magic and complete the look that we wanted to go with: Hmong Princess Fairytale - our version. Originally, I was looking to find if there was a long hmong dress to use but I didn't see any that wasn't connected to the top piece....and all these modern hmong clothes are becoming shorter and showing more skin, which was the opposite of what I had wanted. Therefore, we stuck with the closest dress I had that imitates a princess dress and makes every model who wears it feel like a princess and it totally worked out. We incorporated pieces from our hmong clothes to create that hmong princess vibe.
Super thankful that I love wearing green because the headpiece my mom made for me totally worked with the shoot. I was a little nervous that everything would look off but I'm so happy that it turned out beautifully. The smoke grenades made me nervous as well since again, I wasn't sure if the coloring would work out well but the results came out beautifully! We had quite a experience with the wind and smoke grenades. During the shoot, when the smoke grenade went off, we pretty much followed it across my sister's back yard. Would've been a hilarious sight to see but the photos turned out nicely so I won't complain about the experience. I just felt bad for the model and the assistant since they were working so much.
